My experiences are on a personal level. My grandfather and I were very close growing up (he was more like my father). We had this amazing relationship. A couple years ago he suffered a brief "coma." We later we found out it was Lysteria, which is a food bacteria. He was in ICU for three months and I never left his side. Then as things started to look up and he was transferred to a rehab facility, his body couldn't fight off infection after infection. He was never a sick man. For five months I spent 90% of the time by his side determined that he would come out of it. Things you never thought you'd do for your grandfather (change him, help him go to the bathroom at his bedside, move his legs that he used to walk miles on, teach him to talk, feed him, help him swallow his pills) I did. They say I was the light of his life. and he truly was mine. Well, unfortunately his body stopped fighting, and I miss him terribly. I have such an admiration for the elderly. Things are so simple and life is so beautiful in their eyes. It's taken me a bit to come to terms with the fact my grandfather died. I was very blessed to have him so long. For the last three years I always wondered if I could be a a part of someone's life and share what I was able to share with my grandfather. It makes me happy to see other people smile.
