I started working with seniors with Alzheimer's when my grandmother was diagnosed in 2001. I then started working in a long term care home where I was assigned up to 14 residents at a time. I am responsible for helping the residents with daily activities grooming and personal hygiene, toileting, getting dressed getting to and from meals, engage in activities with them daily. I am familiar with special diets and thicken liquids I help with feeding when deemed necessary. I enjoy working with seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia. It's a very rewarding career. It's not about what they have forgotten. To me it's about their small daily moments of success. One day they may not remember how to brush their hair but the next they do that; to me is a great moment of success.
