I am from a large family and cared for my grandmother and 10 great aunties in their later years. After their passing, I volunteered with elder friends that matched citizens like myself with elders who were shut in without family and transportation. The two elders whom I visited regularly have passed away. I realized I would enjoy caring for elderly as a paid profession now that my nest is empty. For nearly 30 years, I worked from my home providing child care including special needs. I am a registered nurse assistant in the state of Washington. My best friend's mother is 89. I still continue to help her every other week with household chores and errands to relieve the family a bit.
