I recently graduated from the California Institute of Integral Studies with a master's in counseling psychology with an emphasis in drama therapy. I have experience working as a therapist for elderly adults: able-bodied, disabled, and those dealing with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, as well as a wide variety of conditions. I have great respect for this population and wish to continue to serve older adults in our community. In August, I completed a one year internship with California Pacific Medical Center's Activities Therapy Department. As an activities therapist I provided individual and group psychotherapy to a diverse population of older adults who were hospitalized in CPMC's skilled nursing facility and Irene Swindells Alzheimer's Residential Care Program. I worked together with a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, physical and occupational therapists to provide patients with comprehensive care, addressing medical, psychological, psychosocial, environmental and spiritual needs. My training emphasized working together with patients, families and a team of colleagues and caregivers. I greatly value this collaborative approach to providing comprehensive, safe and appropriate care. My work at CPMC solidified my enthusiasm and commitment to working with older adults. I gained valuable experience in understanding medical and psychosocial problems of aging adults as well as how to attune to their needs and communicate with a team in addressing these needs.
