I worked as a hospice volunteer for eight years. My job as part of a team was to provide support to the caregiver as well as to the patient. I would sit with the patient up to four hours at a time, so the caregiver could have free time. I went through a full year of training, and have attended numerous continuing education classes through the years. I presently work at a school district as a substitute. I prefer to work in classrooms with special needs children, and with students in an English as a second language class setting. I love working with the elderly since I believe they have so much to still give to the community. This is one of many countries that do not honor the older generations. I just want to let them know that there are still, some of us out there that care about them, and want to add some joy to the end of their journey.
