I have worked for clients who are still mobile but walker dependent, clients recovering from a stroke, as well as a client who had Alzheimer's until he was no longer able to walk and he required more skilled care. I transported and accompanied clients to medical, dental, and hair appointments. I also took them to the grocery stores. I assisted the client recovering from the stroke when she was working on her daily or weekly physical therapy exercises. I have also stayed with a client in the home, when the family needs to go out of town. I have read to clients who have become visually impaired and can no longer read books. I have always had a care and concern for seniors. It upsets me to hear in the news that a senior has died because the utilities were shut off in the winter when they did not pay a bill. When I was 10, I spent my summers helping with my grandparents. My grandfather had dementia and my grandmother had diabetes and she was in a wheelchair. My mother developed advanced breast cancer and also needed some assistance. I understand from the experience I got in my family, a client feeling that they have lost a certain amount of their independence. I am always sensitive and respectful of client's needs.
