For many families discussing taking the keys away or asking a senior to stop driving are dreaded conversations. Fraught with concerns over independence and mobility, many seniors are reluctant to give up this privilege. But when you approach the conversation with plenty of information about transportation alternatives, the issue becomes less difficult.

Many senior centers provide ride services to seniors and friends and family are often very willing to help out with rides. But sometimes a senior will need to depend on other transportation and in Minnesota there are a number of ride services that assist seniors in getting to where they need to be.  Some services are provided through the state, while others are through a town or county.  These services can vary quite a bit from door-to-door pick up to predetermined routes.  Such services are often inexpensive and can be learned about through your local senior center or parks and recreation department.
