Although I don't have any professional experience with seniors, I have volunteered at various nursing homes throughout my life. Also, I lived with my grandfather (86 years old) for two years so that he was able to stay at home longer before having to go to a nursing home. He would not have been able to live alone safely. Some of my work at his house included: cooking simple meals, cleaning the house, running errands, answering phone calls, helping him with his medications, yard work, helping him use the bathroom, and helping to change clothes if needed. Additionally, I was there to keep him company, watching TV together, reading the paper, etc. A companion for a senior is a very important part of senior care and although my grandfather eventually could not remember who I was, I still enjoyed his company.
