Massachusetts Elder Law

If a person does not draft a will before he or she passes away, Massachusetts law will determine what happens to their property. A person's property will be distributed to a spouse and children or, if the individual has neither, to other relatives according to a predetermined legal formula. If no relatives can be found to inherit the individual's property, it will go to the state. However, estate taxes can be reduced or possibly even eliminated if you plan ahead, so consulting with an elder law attorney is important. For more information, the Massachusetts Trial Court Library has great resources on wills and estate planning.
