It is important to possess a basic understanding of estate planning so you can guide your loved one through the complicated process.  The sooner they take care of writing a will, the sooner they, and you, will have peace of mind.

Drafting a Will

If your loved one has specific wishes about how they want to distribute their property after they die, it is imperative they draft a will. Without a will, a senior's assets are divided according to Idaho intestacy laws. This isn't ideal for seniors who want to leave money to charities, disinherit someone, or have other intentions for their property. The only way to control what happens to one's property after death is to record instructions in a will.

Besides drafting a will, seniors face other legal issues that can cause emotional and financial stress. Idaho Legal Aid Services Inc. is a nonprofit organization that educates and counsels seniors about elder abuse, financial scams, Medicare, housing rights, long-term care, power of attorney, wills, and ageism. To be eligible for ILAS service, seniors must be at least 60 years of age.
