I was given training to learn how to care for the animals, such as cleaning cages, checking water and food, but also interacting with them....

As early on as I could remember, I have always had a pet. My love for animals was something I knew I could use to help them and people. Between 2002 and 2004 I volunteered at the humane society. I worked at a shelter where animals came from particularly abusive situations. I was given training to learn how to care for the animals, such as cleaning cages, checking water and food, but also interacting with them. Most importantly, I learned how to help re-socialize animals so that they could get a second chance at a new life. Besides my volunteer work, I also have personal experience owning and caring for a variety of pets. I have owned pets from rats and mice, to cats and birds. It has helped me build responsibility and a stronger affinity for wanting to work with animals. I have also on occasion, given care for friends' pets, like snakes, turtles, birds and dogs. Being employed in an established business/restaurant has helped me to function in a structured work setting and to operate efficiently as part of a set work routine. This summer, I've been hired to work part-time as a camp counselor at a local park and recreation center.
