When I was in high school, I volunteered for a veterinary clinic caring for the patients that came in. Upon acceptance to Mizzou's Animal Science Pre Vet Program, I volunteered walking dogs at the humane society and provided care for patients at a local veterinary clinic. I was also paid for three years in graduate school to care for a professors elderly dogs. My duties included house sitting on occasion, feeding, giving water, giving medications and a lot of love and play time on a regular basis.
