I've house-sat for family and friends and their acquaintances about a dozen times in the last three years. I've cared for dogs, cats, and a couple birds. I'll take the dogs out walking once or twice a day and ensure they have adequate food. For one family this involves a rationed mixture of wet and dry food three times a day. Other dogs I'll feed twice a day, or just ensure they have enough food, depending on the feeding regimen of the animal. Cats are a bit easier, happy with a set amount of food and ample water a few times a day. I obviously spend some time with the animals, playing fetch or with laser pointers, that sort of thing. As long as the animal seems happy, I'm happy.
