I have had dogs and cats in my household for many years and I've volunteered at the local Humane Society for the past several years. At the shelter, I routinely give lots of hugs and attention to the cats and keep their claws nicely clipped. I enjoy walking the dogs there and I'm a second level dog walker, that is, I walk the more difficult dogs (but not the most difficult). I've loved and cared for parakeets, conures, and even a large amazon parrot (Mexican Double Yellow Head).
