I currently have two dogs (Maltese) who are members of my family, as many pets are. I adopted one from a shelter, and the other was given to me by a friend after I lost my dear dog Buddy to kidney failure in 2007. (I also adopted him from a shelter in 1998 and was fortunate to have him for 10 years). During the last year of his life, he became incontinent and had to wear pads and a "diaper" to help him. He was also on meds for CHF and arthritis. Buddy was also a certified therapy dog, so he came to work with me to visit my residents at both the Jewish Geriatric Home and the Masonic Home over the years. I've always had pets and understand how important they are to each of us. Over the years, my pets have included: dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, fish, and parakeets. I have also taken care of friend's and family member's pets while they were away: including dogs, cats, lizards, iguanas, and parrots. Although I've never been "paid" money to care for animals, the experience I do have is very valuable. Please be assured that I would care for your pets as I would want my own to be cared for in my absence. Regarding the administration of medications, as long as you provide directions on how they are given, I have no problem giving them to your pet(s). I recently began giving one of my dogs daily prednisone eyedrops for cataracts. He's doing well so far, though the cataract in his right eye has gotten worse since diagnosed. We can only take it one day at a time.
