I always had animals growing up. My mother assigned me the duties of feeding, cleaning, combing, etc. my dog or cat. I saw how quickly they responded to the care and it was very gratifying for me. I now have two cats, and one is handicapped without back paws. He was a "special adoption" from the SPCA. They wanted to make sure I would be his "forever home". I got him at four months and he's now a terrific energetic 7 year old. I volunteered at the SPCA for three years, every day, while I was on disability. I did cat-sitting for the co-owner of "The Animal Connection" on Chestnut St. I've had a lot of "sick" time in my life and have experienced the magic and healing powers of my cats.They tend to sense my emotions and when I pet them we both benefit - they purr and become very tender and loving and I feel better both mentally and physically. The same healing powers of animals I've seen when I worked in a hospital which used "animal assisted therapy" with old patients. I saw elderly people "light" up when I brought the dog around for them to touch. I always say, animals are beautiful people.
