I was in need of a housekeeper for our 3 1/2 bedroom apartment and I came across Yolanda's ad. She was asking for 15-50 dollars an hour, she checked off every housekeeping duty listed, she said she would travel up to 50 miles to work and she said she was willing to work on short notice. I called her and went over the details with her. I was offering $20 an hour for three days a week, about 10 hours of work a week. I told her that the apartment hadn't been professionally cleaned in about ten days and was dirtier than usual but after the first time it wouldn't be so hard to maintain. We discussed the subway route she would be taking (two trains, about a 40 minute commute) and I told her it was an eight blocks walk from the station. She was okay with everything and we agreed to meet at 10 a.m. the next day so she could start working. She told me she might be late the first time because she wasn't familiar with the commute and I said that was understandable. The next day she doesn't show up at 10 a.m. At about 11:30 she calls me and says she's about to get going, she's getting a ride from someone. Fine, at least she's on her way. Not until after 12:30 does she show up. It's a brief appearance. First of all, she's dressed like she's here for a secretarial position not like she's about to clean an apartment. She takes one look at the living room and makes a face like she's overwhelmed. I admit it was messy but nothing that a real housekeeper shouldn't be able to handle. Just pick up, dust, vacuum... big deal. She says she's ready to start, that she is just going to step out to say goodbye to her brother and she'll come right back up. Several minutes go by and I realize that there is no longer a car out front. I call her and she says something came up and she'll be back the next day but she didn't realize how far the subway station was. That's the last I heard from her. If she had a problem with the position she should have just said so instead of just sneaking off after keeping me waiting for hours. Just a waste of my time, don't waste yours.
