My mother's cancer had reached the terminal stage, and it was just a matter of time before she would succumb to her illness. She began to lose her faculties about a month prior to her death. The ten days prior to her passing were the absolute worst. As she rapidly declined, she became unable to walk, eat, speak, or even swallow. Even during that time, her greatest fear was not losing another ability. Rather, it was being alone and ultimately...dying alone. My father passed away alone in a hospital two years ago, and my sister passed away alone in her room four months ago. To my mom, there was nothing more terrifying than taking that last breath...alone.
My extended family and I did everything to make sure there was always someone by her side during her final days. But, it was a struggle for us. No matter how much we loved her and saw it as a duty and honor to look after her...it was difficult because we had our own obligations. And, emotionally speaking...a piece of us died each time we saw my mother in her condition.
That's when a close friend of mine took it upon herself to contact Griswold Special Care. I was extremely reluctant at first because I had never procured such services, and I didn't want to place the care of my mother in strangers' hands. But, Alma, Mercy, and Alba made it so very clear from the moment they met my mother that they were there to help her in any way they can.
Alma, Mercy, and Alba took turns caring for my mom around the clock. They were so gentle, kind, and loving with my mother. They were also extremely considerate with me and my extended family by sending us updates whenever we were away from my mother's bedside. The director, Richard Shoop, drove many miles over to the hospital my mother was in to personally meet her and me. When my mother passed, Alma was there with my cousins. Thanks to Griswold, my mother passed surrounded by loved ones.
I highly recommend Griswold Special Care. Your loved ones will not get better care from anywhere else. If you want to get in touch with me to hear more about my experience with Griswold, please email me at suechae@hotmail.com.
I owe an eternal debt of gratitude to Griswold Special Care. Thank you, Alma, Mercy, Alba, and Richard.
