I first became a nanny over 12 years ago. When I immigrated to the US, I had absolutely no English language skills. I learned the language from my work families (my work positions came from referrals from their friends) and from Community College. However, the most important skill I brought from my home country Hungary, is the language of children. I think this is one reason they are always surrounding me on playgrounds when I play with my family's children. I am firm with some basic rules. I am not a big fan of TV, but I do like educational programs. I am willing to help out, but my primary focus is on the children. I especially enjoy the ages 0-5. I have experience with twins, and up to 12 yr olds. With infants, we like to go on walks with a stroller, play peek-a-boo, and sing. Age 2+ we like to be outside to get fresh air. For indoor activities, we read and play with motor skill development toys, read books, sing, and paint. Age 3+, inside, we like to paint, play with play-doh, make crafts, and play cards, matching, or board games, and learn some computer skills. For outdoor activities, as I have learned, all ages need lots of exercise; to play ball, take trips to the park and run around.
