I like to use the small moments to teach, such as bath time, fixing lunch, putting toys away. Reading is a vital part of our day. I like for children to learn about communication very early, so baby sign language can be used.
I believe that the parents and I should be on the same page as far as discipline. I will have certain rules with the children while I am there and appreciate parents not totally ignoring those in my time off. It makes things much easier for everyone. This DOES NOT mean that I will not follow and respect the parent's rules.
I do not believe that spanking is an effective form of discipline. I believe that redirection and time out are great tools.
I like to be on the go if possible. I don't like to sit around all the time with a child. I believe that exploring the world around us is essential. "Field trips", walks around the neighborhood, playing on the playground, pool time, and play dates with other children are all things I enjoy doing with children.
I have extensive experience with autism and the behavioral therapy used as treatment, ADD, ADHD, OCD as well as other behavioral issues. Multiples and infants are my specialty.
The settings I have worked in include church preschools, summer camps, YMCA day camps, Montessori schools, country club sitter service (which I was brought in to start), as-needed babysitter and as a nanny (live-in and live out). I have also home-schooled 2 children when they got kicked out of their private school. I have experience in special event child care (weddings, parties) as well.
I have over 12 years of experience with children in the aforementioned settings.
I studied forensic science at one of the top schools of the country and while in Oklahoma attending school, I nannied for 2 families. I have an associate's in education which I received before heading to school for forensic science.
I have been singing since I was 2 years old and have participated in several competitions. I have taken private vocal lessons for years. I received a vocal scholarship to college and was in an a capella group there
