Wendy worked for me for several months. Although she has her own quirkiness, she was willing to be flexible with my work schedule and cared for my child in a caring manner. I did feel that she genuinely liked my child and cared for him to the best of her ability. I initially trusted her educational and prior childcare background and gave her a great deal of autonomy in caring for my child. But it didn't work well and eventually I had to give her more and more instructions and lay down ground rules. She also seems to lack some common sense, e.g., bringing unauthorized foods and sharing with the child with food allergy or having him drink caffeine-loaded beverage, etc. She also kept buying my son various toys despite my effort to curtail her generosity - this made me very uncomfortable although others may like that. I also felt that she allowed my child to watch too much TV/DVD - her style of care is quite sedentary. But I don 't have high expectations and I know I 'm not going to find a Mrs. Doubtfire. Because I felt that Wendy was a good person, I continued with her help. It all changed one morning when she did not show up for work and put me in a very difficult situation - I'm a physician and I cannot just call off work unless I'm almost dead. I couldn't reach her for many days, but she eventually contacted me back and gave me a lame excuse. Unfortunately it happened again two months later and I still have not heard from her. What a very unprofessional way to end a relationship?! My child still wonders what happened to her. I treated her very fairly and paid more than the contracted amount per hour. I even wrote two excellent reference letters to the master's programs she was applying. I will never know what my child or I did to upset her so much to put us in a bind. It was extremely unfair of her to part with us the way she did. Lastly, let me just say that there was one very unprofessional act I've discovered about Wendy which I'll not reveal to the whole world, but she herself knows what it is, and I hope someday she realizes it's wrong what she did.
