I hold a Colorado license in Special Education and over the last 10 years I have had experience with diverse groups of children. In my country (Colombia), I worked for 3 years as a preschool teacher and 3.5 years as a Special Education teacher. In the United States I have been working for DPS in elementary and middle school as a paraprofessional in Special Education for 4 years and as a Special Education Teacher in Elementary Immersion Program.
As a teacher in Special Education I have performed services in programs of motor-sensory stimulation given to children with significant disabilities with an objective of helping them to adapt and control their general motor skills. I provided basic daily life activities to develop cognitive, sensory, communicative and physical motor abilities. I have participated in IEP meetings and development plans tailored to the abilities, interests and needs of each child and also I have given input as needed in staffing meetings to determine appropriate positive behavioral interventions and strategies.
As a Paraprofessional, I have assisted the teacher in the classroom with daily living procedures such as toileting, feeding and personal hygiene for children.
