I have worked as a live in Au pair. First I started with one child, age 3.5 or so. Then the mom had another child and I was there with one child a few months old and the second around 4.5. I keep in close contact with the family and speak to both girls, even if one of them can't talk yet. I learned to speak French with small children. My greatest accomplishment was catching little tiny frogs with a net and playing 'under the quilt' in August in an attempt to hide from the 'wolf'. I was very good at that game. The little one also loved me for the simple reason that I would sing and dance with her, despite the fact that she couldn't walk yet. I taught her the Waltz and Cha Cha and told her that age was no excuse for not dancing. I have also worked as a mother's helper to a baby that was about 1-month-old. I then watched that child, full time for four months until school started up for me and his parents put him in daycare. I loved working with a newborn. I would frequently take him on walks and to the library to meet other children at story time. He was one cool dude. On occasion I babysit for a little girl, who is 3.5 yrs. We paint and build ships that sail around the world. My greatest accomplishment was flying around the living room to Peter Pan. I was very proud of her imagination.
