I have approximately six years of experience in caring for children, not to mention that I have two of my own, now ages 26 and 23. I have cared for children ages 18 months, 3, 4, and 5 years. Of course my primary duties consist of caring for the children, but in addition to that, I prepare breakfast, lunch and snacks, clean their rooms, do their laundry, teach them manners and how to cleanup after activities, and I care for them when they are sick.
I also do fun things with them like read, play games and I also teach them their alphabets, colors and numbers. Once a week we have a special day where we go to the park for a picnic, the zoo, or to the museum, and occasionally we go out for ice cream in the summer months.
I try to be a friend to my children, be someone that they can look up to and trust. I show them the same love that I show my own children and give them comfort when they are having a bad day. My motto is "Kids are people too." Therefore, I do respect their feelings, and I allow them to freely express themselves.
Doing house work is not in my job description, but I do it on my own. If I see that there is something that needs dusting, I dust it, or if the floor needs to be vacuumed then I vacuum it. Occasionally, I do run errands and I pick up kids after school.
Being a caregiver is not a job for me, but it is what I enjoy doing and it something that I am passionate about. Caring for children is a joy to me, and it was what I missed the most when my children became adults themselves.
