I'm retired now, but I have an Associate of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, and I love working with children. I have five years experience, first as a preschool head teacher in a college daycare, then kindergarten for the school district and then as a Head start teacher. I taught ages 3 to 5 and was responsible for writing, organizing and executing the children's curriculum. This included learning experiences, conducting group activities, individual play activities, outdoor excursions, and of course meals and nap time. Class size varied from about 30 to 35 preschoolers. Even if your children are older than that, establishing a rapport and working with young people has many common elements with preschoolers. Responsibility, accountability, socialization and learning remain similar, even though the complexity changes. My strengths were in reassuring them when they had difficulties, working with them toward a win-win while teaching coping skills, and giving the children a secure, interesting and fun atmosphere about the whole school, which promoted an excellent learning environment. My childcare experience began with being the oldest in a family of seven where I was helping out at a young age. When I reached my teens, I was neighborhood babysitter for years. I also raised my own child and I have three really wonderful grandchildren, at 1, 3, 7, and two equally wonderful nieces, at 9 and 14, and 2 nephews, at 2, and 12 years. I grew up on a farm and I am comfortable with animals of all kinds. I currently have one dog, an Italian Greyhound (we lost another last October). I live in Ballantyne and would be able to provide your children with transportation, as well as any other assistance you need. ( My driving record is clean by the way.) And just in case you need it, any cooking and house keeping is very much part of taking care of young children and I'm okay with it. I am open to the care giving philosophy practiced by your family and making it work with my own beliefs in healthy eating, exercise, and busy days. I sincerely look forward to meeting you and your family.
