I am the oldest of four siblings and I am 10 years older than my youngest sister. Having grown up in this dynamic I adapted both a great understanding for children and parental instincts at a young age. Having a sister who is that much younger has allowed me the opportunity to care for children in a way that is second nature.
Furthermore, I coached both swimming and diving for 4 summers at a country club. This summer job allowed me to interact with kids on both a professional and friendly level. I was at the pool from 11:00 a.m. -7:30 p.m. all summer long so I was able to form genuine relationships with the kids and parents involved. Monday-Saturday I would give kids swimming and diving lessons, instruct group practices, and compete in swim/dive competitions.
I have also been a lifeguard for many kid swim parties. Given my certification and good understanding of how children interact in/with the water, I was able to assure a safe kid-friendly environment.
Also, over the summer I led a kids soccer camp in Orange county. Initially, I was giving private soccer lessons to a family friend's daughter, but because of her excitement and liking of my soccer drills we expanded our lesson into a full blown camp, in which 15 of her friends joined.
While I have cared for children in a variety of ways I continually babysat from the age of 16. I genuinely enjoy caring for children because I love helping them achieve. Whether I'm helping them achieve a sports goal, completing homework assignments, or helping them creatively: drawing, musically, etc. I love doing it. Being the oldest sibling, daughter, and granddaughter in my family, I remember always wanting an older sibling with patience to help me complete whatever task I wanted to do that day. This, plus my life long experience with younger children has given me the understanding, patient, humorous, and fun personality that I have found clicks with kids.
