When I was 10, my mom had a career change. From the fast-paced world of banking, she moved to the equally fast-paced world of at-home daycare. Needless to say, the latter was more rewarding. From then until I left home for college, every day I spent helping her around the house with her kids. Dozens of kids came and grew up in my house, each of them leaving a small imprint of joy and happiness on my life.
As one of her helpers, I assisted in the normal tasks of changing diapers, cleaning noses, first aid for the ever so dramatic scratches and for the minor scrapes and cuts they might get while playing outside. I also helped when it came to entertaining and educating. Most of her children during the day were infants and toddlers, but after school she had many grade-school children. During the day, if I were home from school, I would sit and read to her younger kids and after school I would help the older ones with their homework.
When I went to college, leaving these kids were almost like leaving part of my own family.
However, thanks to many service opportunities I participated in, I was able to help other children as well through presentations about education and by visiting children shelters to spend some quality time with children who were removed from dangerous homes.
I graduated college with a Bachelor of Arts in English-Communication Arts and I began working as a writer in the advertising agency world. I realized that I needed a change, so I applied to the Teach for America program and was accepted. However, as I fundamentally believe that a teacher of a specific subject should be an expert in that subject, and I was assigned high school chemistry as an English student, I turned down the opportunity.
My passion to teach and educate children still stands.
As a daycare provider, I would provide the care and nurturing a child needs, support and aid their educational growth, provide guidance and promote healthy eating habits (I am a budding chef who loves to cook with fresh ingredients and limited preservatives).
