I have always loved children and knew from an early age that I had a gift for knowing how to care for them. I came from a large family and began babysitting as a teenager. I had young nieces and nephews which helped give me some experience. I began attending seminars and classes offered in my area on early childhood, safety, CPR, and first aid. I gradually progressed into working as a full-time nanny. I lived with families and traveled with them as well. When I got married and had my own children I continued to care for other children along with mine. It was a wonderful way to be able to stay at home for my children, have playmates for them, and earn some income doing what I love. After my children entered school, I volunteered at the school and continued to do childcare. Some jobs I would be working at the family's home and some jobs I would have them at my house. For many years, I ran a playgroup at our local church for ages 0-5 years and learned so much through that valuable experience. I have also taught Sunday school and led the youth group.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to help raise so many wonderful children through the years. I am quite proud of the part I have played in their successes. I have really enjoyed all of the families that I have come to love throughout my childcare career. I have had all ages from newborns to school age. Usually I will care for other siblings as they come along and work for families for as long as they need me. I rarely have had to advertise for work. My reputation for being the best has earned me steady work for the most part. For instance, I would be taking care of Julie's children, and her sister would have a baby. So I'd work for them, and then a friend of theirs would need help, and so on. I am very safety orientated and constantly look for ways to prevent accidents. People say I have a natural gift with children and they feel safe, relaxed, and at ease with me. I have a sense of what they need and I provide it. I have an intuition that can't be taught. My own children are now 25 and 20. They often talk about the many friends (more like brothers and sisters) that they got to grow up with. We get a real kick hearing a now 16-year-old talking about remembering certain toys that they loved to play with at our house.
My experience and knowledge is vast and I am still learning. I love to read up on children's issues, health, learning, and behavior.
