My approach to child care is structured with clear boundaries, humorous and loving, always using age-ready, positive language. Invoking redirection and allowing consequence based behavioral opportunities supports self reliance, encourages good choices and grows confidence and independence from the earliest ages.
I always believe in safety first, helmets, car seats and feet on the ground (unless at playground or in a pool) are absolutes. I often use exaggerated motions, silly but appropriate language and instances to convey rules supporting family policies.
Creativity is my ace of spades turning daily tasks, chores and homework into adventures, games is a saving grace particularly when caring for multiple children of varying ages/abilities.
I adapt at balancing daily household requirements and schedules of busy families is a talent I am known for, hence the "Mary Poppins" label.
I am Montessori method level one (ages 3-6) trained to nurture the natural curiosity and growing intelligence of children using everyday occurrences and objects to inspire wonder and an innate love for learning and the environment.
My paid babysitting duties commenced at age 12, developing into summer camp counselor positions through college. After a successful 10-year stint in the professional world, I returned to my true calling; raising happy, well-adjusted, exceptional children, both my own and other people's.
While my sons were young, I volunteered and substitute taught in their schools, taught preschool, taught piano, coached sports, led Sunday school classes, and created a children's Wednesday night experience combining Bible based theater, interactive games and visual effects, humor and current music.
Children need liberal opportunities for free, open play, outdoor exploration and no TV or video game days. Indoor activities should promote motor skills, eye-hand coordination, (i. e. cooking-pouring, measuring) include much reading, art and chances to explore self through unguided imagination play.
I believe in the immense value of excellent nutrition, freshly prepared snacks and healthy meals. The occasional treat is fine and needed, but I define treat as the exception, not daily expectation. Kids will eat cucumbers, avocado, kiwi and raspberries given the exposure. I promise!
I will be consistent and provide adequate rest/sleep and predictable routines within a flexible structure are also important child care components essential to promote positive behavior life-style choices at any age.
