My first day as a mother's helper, I shadowed Jaynel that day. I assisted with the twin's care, cleaning of the house, unpacking, and discussing future projects. When it was time for the twins' naps, Jaynel debated whether to put one down 30 minutes earlier than the other as he was tired, teething, and fussy. She decided to do so and I handled putting the other baby down as Jaynel took a 90-minute nap. During that time, I did dishes, ran and folded laundry, cleaned the kitchen, and stated unpacking and organizing a cluttered closet. When I took my 20-minute break, the only one in a 6. 5-hour day, one baby woke and began to cry. I had been studying for a test I was to take that night. After 5 minutes of cries growing louder, I grabbed him before he woke his twin. When Jaynel woke and told me to put him back to bed, I did but he didn't sleep. I finished the day playing with the twins while Jaynel ran errands. I left for school and received a text two days later informing me not to return. I had turned down two other part-time positions for her full-time position. I focused on job searching and school. As for my references, one is a character reference, my godmother, who is an honest reference and tough employer, another is a nanny that I have worked with and become friends with, the other is my employer before my current one. My leaving had to do with me overwhelming myself. I worked full-time for that family 45 hours/week. I also attend night school 23 hours/week. For 5 months, I also worked 2-3 side jobs on the weekend usually working from a total of 68-88 hours a week. I exhausted myself causing my tendonitis to prohibit my ability to move in early mornings due to flare ups. We choose to part amicably and I quit all jobs but the one I currently hold. My experience with childcare is 10 years, 7 kids and 1 adult- age 27, of special needs, ranging from Autism to severe bed-ridden Down Syndrome disorder; 4 families of multiples: 2 sets of triplets, 2 sets of twins-not including this position, 6 states, and 2 countries (US and Mexico). I haven't cared for any multiples in Utah (a misunderstanding) but I am the eldest of 11 children and 15 grandchildren (on my step/adoptive father's side only) most of which I have cared for at some point. While things unfortunately didn't workout with Jaynel, I'm a wonderful caretaker and if I had stayed with them, I wouldn't have become part of a diverse and loving family that I have nannied for the past month thus far.
