My name is Sharron. I am the oldest child of 4. Being the oldest I have helped my parents care for my younger siblings since they were born. I started watching them on my own for short periods when I was 8 or 9 years old. As I grew older I would watch them for longer and longer lengths of time.
My brother has Asperger's syndrome which is on the high functioning side of the autism spectrum. While we try to let him lead as normal a life as possible, me and the rest of my family have all learned to recognize when he is becoming overwhelmed and how to calm him down.
I have been home-schooled since elementary school and learned many things through hands on projects and crafts. Now when I care for children I enjoy doing many of those same activities with them. Children are naturally creative and often do not have enough opportunity to show it, I like to let them use their imagination. Playing pirates or princesses, painting and coloring, and exploring indoors and out are all things that let them learn and play at the same time.
I am one of the Assistant Scout Masters with Boy Scout Troop. Our main goal in scouting is teaching leadership and character to young men, all while making it fun. We do a lot of camping, hiking and swimming. The skills needed for each activity are taught to all the boys so we can do these things safely.
Prior to being involved in boy scouts I was heavily involved in cub scouts. I still occasionally volunteer for cub scout day camp. In cub scouts we introduce the boys to the same things they would to in boy scouts, however the skills are simpler and each parents is involved in almost every activity.
Every year my church has a sports camp for one week in they summer. For the past 3 years I have helped with that by coaching soccer. For 2 of the 3 years I have couched kindergarten soccer, they are always a joy to watch grow in their skills.
I have experience with overnight and long term childcare.
