Throughout high school, I took care of two brothers who were 3 and 4 when I began caring for them. During the school year I watched them four to five nights a month, making dinner, watching movies, building forts, helping with homework, and playing sports with the two of them. During the summer I saw them more often, sometimes taking them to tennis lessons and to the swimming pool at a local country club.
During the last year, I have also taken care of two brothers near my college in Pennsylvania, taking them to high school soccer games, helping with homework, and playing games with them. The older of the two children was 11 and had special needs while the younger was 8.
I additionally spent the past three summers working as the lifeguard and primary female counselor at a camp in Northern New Hampshire, playing sports, hiking, teaching archery, swimming, caring for minor cuts and bruises, and generally spending time with campers ranging in age from 8 to 17.
