I have been working with children for a few years now. For the first year or so I was just assisting mother's when they might have needed an extra hand around the house. Around the time I turned 13 was when I began to watch children on my own after school or on the weekends for just a few hours at a time. As I got older the number of hours that I was caring for children increased from two or three hours to seven or eight hours, or a full work day. In my junior and senior years of high school, I took child development courses, which allowed me to begin working with children in a preschool setting. This allowed me to develop new child care skills, as well hone the ones I currently have. During the Summer of 2011, I worked five days a week caring for children for two different families. The hours I worked were usually 8-5 during the week and my responsibilities included preparing various meals for the children, making sure their hygiene needs were met, and attempting to keep them entertained and out of trouble by having them participate in various activities such as going for walks to the park, playing games, and occasionally going swimming. Throughout the time that I have spent in caring for children I have always made their safety my number one priority, which is why I am CPR and First Aid certified. My experiences that I have had with children have motivated me to pursue a career in education, which is why I am currently studying to become an Elementary Educator in grades Pre K through 4, at California University of Pennsylvania.
