I've been a babysitter since I was 12 years old. I started with taking care of my nieces and nephew. My nephew was born with a few health problems and had to be fed with a special formula.

I take care of my nieces and nephew to this day while my sister is working. My oldest niece is 13 years old, the other one is 10 and my nephew is nine. I've been at this for a while because my first experience in babysitting ranged with them all in diapers.
In High School I took my first Child Care class which gave me credits as a college course. I've taken quite a few classes in College on child care.

Most of the children I've watched are young kids aged 2 months-13. For most of the kids, they like that I can be on their level when it comes to what they enjoy in hobbies and activities. I know the shows they like and watch.

At one time I babysat for a woman with a son who is six and has special needs. He needed help with getting around. He was a bright kid who liked watching Ben 10 and playing with his action figures. He just needed someone to talk to and play with and that kept a smile on his face because I could talk about his interests (Ben 10) back with him and make him happy.

Another was for a woman with two kids, one is nine and the other one is five. They were two kids who liked playing on their trampoline and playing games like hide and seek in the dark and doing arts and crafts.

The recent was for a single father with a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old. I took care of them sometimes up to 12 hours in a day. I communicated with the kids and was able to make them laugh and taught the 3-year-old commands and directions to get things, point to things and identify.

My preference is any child of any age. I like kids who like to play games and talk about their interests in pop culture and other things that interest them. I can relate to most children when it comes to books and television programming when it comes down to what they enjoy and may want to talk about. I like having a child feel comfortable enough to talk about their problems and together be able to come up with a solution.
I am very capable teaching children some arts and crafts. My skills range in crocheting and plastic canvas to kids crafts such as gimp key chains and beaded key rings.

In College, while receiving my degree in General Studies I have taken quite a few child care classes and one in ASL (American Sign Language) and still, on my own continue to study in that subject.
