As a social worker I am trained to be attentive and attuned to human needs and give the most comprehensive care possible. My experience caring for children includes master's level coursework at Columbia University in Play Therapy, as well as Growth and Development coursework at the undergraduate level. I am an active aunt, with nephews ages 5 and 6, and nieces ages 7 and 8. In my social work career, I have worked with 7-year-olds with social and/or emotional adjustment issues. I am currently an employee at a hospital through which I have had extensive background checks and drug screenings. I am CPR and first aid certified.
In addition, I use research based methods when working with children. For example, research demonstrates that for the most effective behavior shaping, a 4:1 ratio of reward to punishment should be used. Paying attention to more positive behaviors works! Of course, adapting research based strategies to each individual child and his/her needs is paramount.
