I high school, I babysat for a 3-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl when their parents went out some evenings. The boy did not yet speak English, so we communicated in French. I was mainly responsible for putting the children to bed.
I haven't done very much traditional babysitting since high school, but I have worked a great deal with kids as a teacher, tutor, and camp counselor. I graduated from Swarthmore College with a BA in Linguistics and Languages (French and Arabic) in 2011. During college, I was a tutor and mentor to students in Chester, PA; first a tutor for elementary school students, then a mentor for two high school seniors as they navigated the college application process. Right after graduation, I worked at a four-week French immersion camp for 12 to 18-year-olds. As a French counselor at an overnight camp, I was responsible for the overall physical and emotional well-being of my campers, in addition to their language acquisition outside the classroom. This year, I was an English teaching assistant at a high school in Marseille, France, where my classes consisted of 4 to 15 students.
