I'm a current college student majoring in Environmental Science. I have cared for children in various settings since I was a freshman in high school.

I have:
-baby-sat when needed for several different families
-been a nanny for two summers (different family each summer)
-been a camp counselor for two summers for nature camps offered through the park district (duties: supervised large groups of children (mostly ages 5-9) in an outdoor setting, led games and crafts, planned and prepared activities for the week, and worked with special-needs campers)
-worked over a year as an Environmental Educator for the local park district (duties: taught programs to school groups, scout groups, and families, traveled to schools (preschool/elementary) to present outreach programs, helped develop and create new programs)
-completed a three month Visitor Services internship with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at a wildlife refuge (duties: helped develop Environmental Education and Interpretative programs, created a "Kids' Corner" with activities in the visitor center, and led programs for families and children)

I love nature and spending time outdoors, reading, animals, running, arts and crafts, and writing. I strongly believe that it's important for children to spend time outdoors. It fosters an appreciation for nature and a growing number of studies show that children who play outside on a regular basis are healthier overall. I'm also a believer that children should be introduced to books and reading at an early age. Storytime is very important.
I have had many pets over the years, and currently own a dog, rabbits, rats, and a gecko. I have no problem with caring for family pets in addition to the children. I'm pretty artistic, so I love planning and doing artsy activities. I have a basic understanding of Spanish. I took 3 1/2 years in high school, and am currently enrolled in a "refresher" college class. I can provide letters of recommendation from my supervisors at my two most recent jobs and references from former co-workers. Both jobs involved working with children. I can also provide my resume upon request.
