I have worked in child care since I was in high school. I started at a small, family-owned center where I worked with children ages 6 weeks through 5 years old. I have been at my current position for 5 years where I have cared for all ages, but have been in the 12-24 month-old classroom for 4 years. My duties at this position consist of caring for the children's physical, emotional, psychological needs, communicating effectively with families, preparing meals, creating and participating in learning activities with the children, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment, conducting developmental assessments and providing medical attention and care to minor injuries. I am CPR and First Aid certified and have completed 3 years of college majoring in Child Development. I love children and that is why I am in the field that I am. However, in child care, there is a fairly high child to teacher ratio which sometimes does not allow for extensive one-on-one attention to each child. I would really like to focus on caring for the child(ren) of one family so I can really put all my time, effort, love and care into them.
