I have been working with kids for 10 years now in different environments. I started off by baby-sitting when I was 11 years old. I have served in various ministries at church involving any age from infants to sixth grade. I have been a camp counselor for elementary age and sixth graders. I have assisted in a classroom of hearing impaired children for half a year. Currently I work at a Christian day care and absolutely love it! I love every aspect of working with children. There are days at my job where the pay is the bonus. I am in the process of taking early childhood classes. I am hoping to become a preschool teacher in the near future.
I do not believe in time outs, only when there is no other option. I usually go with positive reinforcement or redirection. If I do place a child in a time out, it is only for as long as their age (3 years old = three minutes) and after they have sat there nicely, I get down to their level and ask them why they were put there. After they tell me, I will ask how we can make sure the problem doesn't happen again and that I love them very much! It has worked pretty well.
I love spending time with children, not just in the house but taking them out for ice cream, movies, and other fun activities whether during baby-sitting or not. I love being a part of families as I help them. Can I join your family in helping your child in a positive way?
