I'm 21 years old and am a college student. Childcare is familiar to me since my grandmother owned a home daycare and a licensed daycare facility when I was growing up. As a child, I was able to learn the rules and regulations of childcare early. At age 16, I worked at family member's home daycare with children of all ages. There, I was expected to serve meals, keep a clean work environment, and interact with the children with indoor/outdoor activities. At my current job, I teach the toddlers the alphabet, numbers, colors, and sign language. We engage in daily reading and art work. I work with the preschoolers a lot as well. I interact with the open-ended activities with the preschoolers such as when they choose to play dress-up or play with dough. As a caregiver, I'm expected to plan daily curriculum for the toddlers; provide care for an infant by creating a schedule for his or her food and nap, updating his or her schedule sporadically on an application service, follow the guidelines for cleaning, and making sure the child is able to meet their creativity and educational needs. I also babysit children at their own homes.
