I've been a social worker for 20 years and was laid off from my job 2 months ago due to budget cuts. I am looking for long-term, part-time work as a caregiver in order to transition to a new career providing direct services in an informal, domestic setting. I've worked mostly in the public school system (elementary level) and at the public health department (pre-school level) providing case management/counseling to children. As such, I have a wealth of knowledge in early childhood development and would now like to apply that accumulated experience outside of a formal, institutional setting. I am patient and compassionate with children and have devoted my career to nourishing their inherent joy, intelligence and zest for life. I feel that those are the qualities that make almost every adult so enthralled with them, especially in their younger years when these pristine attributes are still fully intact. Hence, I view my professional purpose in their lives as essentially a protector of their sacred birthright to enjoy a safe and playful environment in which they can flourish. Over the years, I've learned as much from them as anyone and cherish the opportunity to continue to do so.
