I have recently graduated from the university with a degree in Psychology. I am now attending graduate school. I have just moved from Maine to Providence, Rhode Island to work for a non profit organization and to be closer to family. I love the beach, geocaching, reading, crafts, and taking my Irish Setter for walks.
Most recently, I worked as a Summer Academy Teacher, where I was able to help children grades 1-9 keep learning throughout the summer. I specifically taught Math and Science based classes, and helped make learning fun!
In Maine, I was employed as a before and after school care teacher, and a preschool teacher during the day. This was a great opportunity, because it allowed me to work with a wide age group of children, the preschool age, which I loved, and the older children 5-8, which I have had lots of experience with. Throughout the years, we did endless amounts of fun activities from knitting and weaving to hiking and geocaching, and everything in between.
Previously, I worked as a head before and aftercare teacher through a local recreation center while I was attending college. I was in charge of planning and serving healthy snacks, planning fun local field trips, helpful with homework, and planning and implementing fun structured activities daily. The children were all in elementary school, ages 5-9. When school was not in session, I worked as a camp counselor for the same center.
I have been a volunteer for mentoring programs, and a local program through my college, since high school. I also once volunteered to coach a team of cheerleaders ages 5 and under, which was an amazing experience!
I am a very fun and creative person, with lots of energy. I love to find and try new things, though I think the one thing that allows me to connect with children so well is my patience and kindness. I am looking for an opportunity to nanny for the right family this school year, and maybe longer!
