When I began attending the University of Miami, I was a teacher's assistant with University of Miami's Canterbury Preschool. I worked with infants who ranged between the ages of 3-12 months. My position required that I respond to the specific needs of the children (including rocking them to sleep, singing songs & reading stories, feeding & diapering, etc.) as well as communicating effectively with the teachers & staff. I also organized the infant room in order to create a warm, welcoming environment.

I have also cared for children who range from the ages of 6-17 years old working as a camp counselor with Muscular Dystrophy Association and Sweetwater Episcopal Academy in Longwood, FL. The first organization required that I provided 24/7 care to children with various neuromuscular diseases so they could have a typical summer camp experience. My responsibilities included helping the children bathe, eat, dress, swim, etc. I also was responsible for promoting friendship amongst the campers and staff. I have held that position for the past three summers.

The latter organization required that I design short activities that would be implemented in an after-care setting. These included card games, board games, and arts & crafts. I also worked with Sweetwater Episcopal Academy as a summer camp counselor. I, along with my fellow counselor, worked with a group of 5-6-year-olds implementing various enrichment activities.

As a graduate from High School, I also participated in the Early Childhood Education Program and received training in DAP & 4C. I utilized this training to construct lesson plans that were implemented in the preschool located on campus. I worked directly with children from ages 3-5 with the goal of improving their motor skills, cognition, and social development.

Furthermore, I have tutoring experience. During my junior year of high school, I tutored a local elementary school student in reading. We met once every other week to once everyday with the hopes of improving reading skills such as pronunciation and comprehension. I specifically helped the student in the completion of homework and reading aloud. I also tutor on my college campus as a Biology Workshop Leader. This position requires that I lead a group of students through a problem solving activity that reinforces the Biology concepts they are learning in lecture.

The skills these positions have taught me would make me an ideal babysitter for anyone seeking quality child care.
