I recently earned my NA/HHA certification and I'm looking for part-time work to gain some initial experience in the health care industry.

I spent the spring of 2009 volunteering at an orphanage in Tanzania. I was able to establish a rapport and trust with 38 orphans, varying from infancy to 17 years of age. My daily tasks included coordinating games/social programs, teaching English and mathematics, and developing critical life skills in the children. I really enjoyed my time there and the challenges I faced, and I'm eager to work in an environment with children again!

I also have several years of experience tutoring small groups of 4th graders, on my own, during and after school. I know this is a slightly different setting than in the home, but all the same I learned a great deal about these children and myself with respect to developing relationships, communication, commitment, mentoring and teaching. I see this experience as easily adaptable to a home care situation.
