My experiences with children have been wonderful. I have been a babysitter since I was about 12 years old and have been a big sister for much longer. My entire life I have been looking after my siblings and enjoyed it! I have pushed forward with my child care skills within school now as well. I am currently taking an Early Child Hood Development course, where I work with preschool aged children. I put together a lesson plan for the week, make snacks, do art activities, play with the kids outside, and lead groups of children up to 5 at one given time. Also through this course I work one on one with two children getting to them better and helping to provide for their needs, at the same time I am putting together a "Summer Packet" for their parents to help entertain these two throughout the summer.
I have also been a member of the Big Brother Big Sister Association, which is a program open to the community where you are able to be matched with one or two children and work one on one with them. I have been a member for two years, and they were the best!
Templed Hills Summer Camp has played a huge role in my child care record. The children come to the camp in Livingston, Paradise Valley, and stay in cabins and on a campus with many activities to be apart of! I have been a "Cabin Leader" for four years, tending after the care of up to 9 girls at one time. The age group I work with is usually 3rd to 4th grade. At this age it is important to be there for the girls because they are so far away from home, they need to understand that they can trust myself and the other leaders on campus.
This next fall I will be starting College at MSUB Billings, I plan to enroll into a future of teaching. I find it easy to be passionate, patient, and fun for the kids. It's important to me that I am respected but most of all that I can be remembered as fun and creative by the children. Aside from college plans, I spend time with my 4-year-old sister. She is my best friend. I love to hear about her day, help her with challenges at school, teach her manners, and listen to her creative stories. I have been through it all with her, tears, fights, discipline and being hated for saying the big NO or not cooking "Mac 'N' Cheese" for EVERY meal. Most of our time together is filled with smiles and laughs and learning new things! I wouldn't miss a single day of her life, I find the growth and development of children absolutely fascinating!
