My name is Monica Q., and I live in Kansas City, MO. I have nearly 7 years of experience teaching early childhood education, and another year and a half working with emotionally and physically challenged children and adults. I currently work for the Berkley Child and Family Development Center, located on the UMKC campus. I have been employed with UMKC since October of 2010. Prior to this I was employed by the Goddard School of Overland Park, Kansas. I spent nearly 4 years working with children ranging in age from 2 to 4 years old.

I received a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies from Vanguard University in 2002. The Liberal Studies major at Vanguard University is the university-approved academic program for students preparing to enter a graduate or teacher credentialing program. After college, I passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test. I was granted an emergency teaching credential and worked with special needs students for a year in the Orange County and Colton School Districts. Although brief, my experience working with special needs students has been priceless. It has taught me compassion, and alerted me of skills necessary for proper growth and development.

In 2004, I relocated to the Kansas City area. Since then, state required in-service hours have afforded me the opportunity to partake in ECE related continuing-education courses. I have participated in several CPR and First Aid training courses, and am currently certified. The state of Missouri requires that I renew my certification every 24 months. My experience and education continue to support my understanding of the commitment and values needed to promote children's learning and development.
