I have a very strong interest in pursuing a career teaching children. I have experience teaching and working with adults and children of all ages. I have a very diverse background with much to offer.
My first experience of working with children was with the YMCA Day Camps. There I worked with groups ranging between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. I would assist my own group of day campers in daily activities and be responsible for their safety and behavior for eight hours a day, with the last night being an overnight.
After becoming a day camp counselor I pursued my career with children with becoming a Kids club childcare provider. There I worked with elementary school age children. I would plan daily activities for children for the after school program.
I have student taught 2nd grade and 3rd grade. I fell in love with working with the children in the LIFE program during this time. I have volunteered for Special Olympics and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
I have worked with people of all ages with developmental disabilities from severe to mild. I took a mission trip at 16 years old to Kingston Jamaica where I worked with orphans with physical and developmental disabilities, pregnant teens, and HIV Positive orphans. I helped rebuild their community along with teaching hygiene and planning daily activities. I really enjoyed learning their culture and believe this was a very impacting experience for me.
In Junior high I was asked to help teach a class sign language. I learned sign language at a very young age and still currently use it. I assisted an adult with down- syndrome with daily routines and everyday life skills using sign language to communicate. I also worked at a day center where I helped adults with disabilities ranging mild to severe with every day routines. I am a very patient person and found this job to be very rewarding and enjoyable.
