My first experience comes from being an auntie times 8! Being the youngest of 5, I have always loved being part of a huge family.
Right out of high school I worked as a Unit Leader and Counselor-in-Training supervisor for a summer camp. This is where I first discovered that I wanted to be an educator. It is also where I learned patience! But, what an amazing time! I have never had so much fun!
I was also a children's librarian for 3 years. I provided community outreach, literacy education and fun classes and interesting programing for children of all ages (birth-17)! I also provided interactive story times (playing & singing & dancing & reading!) at the library, day cares, local bookstores and camps for babies, toddlers and preschoolers (and sometimes big kids, too)! I just might be the best storybook reader you'll ever meet! I am also an American Library Association certified Every Child Ready to Read literacy trainer. I am able to teach children and caregivers of children all the tools they need to be ready to, have fun with and love reading by the age of 6. I was also the teen specialist at the library. During this time, I also did lots of tutoring and fun stuff at after school programs such as the Boys & Girls Club and the Family Resource Center.
I also taught pre-K at a local private school. What a fun time! However, due to low enrollment, I wasn't able to continue on that path. But! This afforded me some new opportunities. I began doing developmental therapy with special needs preschoolers at a local school district. One of my students advanced to kindergarten and I went with him! Co-teaching kindergarten and doing daily one-on-one therapy with this student were my daily tasks. I am trained in Discrete Trial Data and Applied Behavioral Analysis(ABA) for children with autism and special needs. I am also Praxis certified.
My ultimate goal is to be a life-long educator. I hope to one day teach English. I would love nothing more than to instill a passion in kids for books & reading, writing, thinking and learning.
PS! I am also CPR and first aid certified.
PPS! Furry friends?! Yes, please! Dogs & cats & turtles & hedgehogs, o my!
PPPS! My first love is art! I love nothing more than getting a little messy and making some beautiful, creative things! Sharing this experience with a child is awesome!
And can we mention dancing?! There is nothing more fun than jumping around the house to the Beatles' "Ballad of John & Yoko!"
