As youngest auntie to 15 nieces and nephews (steps and blood, family are the people you care about), I have spent a lot of time with small children around me. I pride myself in being able to balance being young at heart with being responsible and caring for the children around me. I have worked the last three summers at camps; two summers of residential camp, and one summer of day camp. I have taught knitting, crochet, bookmaking, and cake decorating. I am a crafter with a love for making projects out of reclaimed objects. I have worked with kids on developing life skills such as making their beds, or cutting up their food, and coping skills like journalism or drawing.
I recently taught a resistant 8-year-old how to ride a bike, now she can go on bike rides with her family instead of trying to keep up on a scooter or having her training wheels get stuck. I have worked with kids of all ages from infants to young teenagers, from one child to groups of 10. I am willing to help with housework as needed, especially after kids are in bed. I love to cook with kids; both meals and healthy snack- most kids are willing to be less selective with food that they have helped to prepare, but that is less likely to be necessary with overnight infant care.
I am a recent UMASS graduate, in Social Thought and Political Economy! Now, I want to do work with kids, while I figure out what sort of "professional" work I want to do in schools. I have spent the last six months doing as needed childcare for several families.
I do not have a car, and am a year round bike commuter by choice. Last winter I biked daily to my job in Hadley, even during that awful ice storm, and following the hurricane, I did two days of full day care with a family near Florence. My bike commuting will not stop me from getting to your house on time or providing exceptional care.
I am looking mainly for childcare positions, but would consider other types of care. I also have done house and pet-sitting. I have experience with all ages, from infants to young teenagers, and working with families with lifestyle differences (gluten intolerant, kosher, GLBT, mental differences, and holistic living.)
