In addition to the experiences I've had since college caring for children, I have sincerely been making kids a part of my life and livelihood since I was 9 years old.

When I was a 9, my best friend and I had private (paid) summer school for the local children. We were very serious about this endeavor and used classroom materials we had purchased and offered a full curriculum of math, reading, science, health and gym class. We did this for 2 years, picking up the kids by wagon if they lived too far to walk. My best friend's brother was installed as the principal. In our last year we were even featured in our local paper in Michigan.

At age 11, I started babysitting. My best friend, same as above, and I learned CPR and marketed ourselves around the neighborhood, eventually ending up in stiff competition with one another for local business. By the time I was 16 one family trusted me enough (knowing my mother was also at home) to leave me with their 3 kids from Friday night to Sunday morning. I always took my responsibility very seriously and chided friends I knew who talked on the phone the whole time they were working. I always brought my curling iron, nail polish, my clarinet, or a game. We were always doing something fun, until the moment they had to have a bath and more or less dropped into bed without a word.

I believe my experience with kids has always been so good because I have never forgotten what it is like to be 7, 11, 14--any of those ages where I just wished I could be an adult. I treat children as people who have thoughts and opinions and I listen to them.

If you are in need of someone to care for yours I can put you in touch with the parent of the boy I cared for for a decade (or you could actually speak with him, he's 21 now!) and I believe you'll find my particular brand of child care has always been popular and they always invite me back--usually because the kids ask for me!
